EMEK: NEWS
Yes, its true! PNE has re-grouped for several new projects. For those of you who may not know, PNE stands for 'POST NEO EXPLOSIONISM'...which is a periodic artistic collaboration between 3 established poster artists: Justin Hampton, Jermaine Rogers, and EMEK. For now, we'll discuss the first project: many of you remember the QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE series? PNE was commisioned to create a series of concert posters for the band's 2003 North American tour. Between the 3 members of PNE, a seperate limited-edition poster was created for each and every one of the 26 shows. Well, QOTSA has hired us again. We will be creating official concert posters for their upcoming North American tour, slated to begin in Austin on March 15th, 2005. These posters will be used in official promotion before the show and in merch sales at the show. In order to throw a new wrinkle in the project this time around and not tread the same old ground, we talked to the Queens about doing something a bit different. The upcoming QOTSA album is full of 'guest talent' (you all will LOVE it). The 3 of us thought about it, and felt that the series should reflect that same spirit. So, we sought out a group of artists that we felt would provide a dynamic infusion of hardcore talent and creativity and they have been given various posters throughout the run. We let QOTSA know what we wanted to do, and they are behind us 100%. In this way, we think we will get a pretty amazing series in the end...plus, the series will show a variety of talent from different areas of the poster world. We've chosen 7 guest artists. June, 2003 was a month of very big news. The website http://www.PostNeoExplosionism.com
has launched this morning. It marks the official arrival of the collective
of three of the biggest rock poster artists, Emek, Justin Hampton and Jermaine
Rogers known as PNE. Working as one united front they will be covering
more of the growing landscape of rock posters than ever before.
As part of this new beginning, PNE would like to announce the upcoming art
show in Manchester, England at the Richard Goodall Gallery...'UGLY AMERICANS:
The Art Of Post Neo Explosionism'. The show will run from June 20th, 2003
through August 20th, 2003. View many pivotal works from the founders of PNE,
including prints, original art, and unused studies from the recent PNE/Queens
Of The Stone Age series. There will also be 'classic' rare prints on display
and available, as well as paintings and 'fine-art' print work.
On June 20th, there will be an opening reception at the gallery and the 3
PNE artists will be in attendance. The Queens Of The Stone Age will be in
Manchester playing to a sold out crowd later that very night. Hmmm....the
possibilties.
We hope everyone in the U.K. can make it out. It should be quite a nice time.

"Well, I thought it was going to be really cool, many of these people have not seen good poster art since Rick Griffin smoked out the 'Dead here back in '76, but the Beduins did not appreciate the pedantic anti-western hegemony espoused by Marilyn Manson, so the whole show ended up being a disaster, I ended up having to hide in a cave for a week..."
EMEK was in Berlin recently for his one-man show, featuring his Rock n' Roll Artworks.
The show lasted from February 13 to April 16, 1999 and was held at the Flying Piston Gallery in Berlin, Germany.
